"The greater part of our happiness or our misery depends on our disposition not our circumstances" Thomas Caryle
One of my favorite qoutes of all time. It's been a while since I've last blogged and even to me my own writting is jibberish but I do it not for attention but for my own satisfaction.
Simply put, it means that a person's happiness is determined by their own outlook of life and not of the enviorment that surrounds them. Say for example that there is a person who may have all the material riches in the world, all the things anyone could ever desire, and all the things anyone needs and yet in the end lack the frame of mind to appreciate all the things they have and ultimately be happy. While on the other end of the chain a person may live in extreme poverty where even the most meager of necesities is an enormous struggle and yet in spite of all circumstances find a reason to be happy. I agree with Thomas Caryle's words that happiness and misery is due to a person's perspective.
While many may disagree about what makes them happy, I think that we will find one singular truth about happiness and that it is something we make ourselves. I find comfort in knowing that no matter how poor or how blessed I may or may not become, that I can and will find happiness. Although society, at the moment, prefers material satisfaction the individual still holds the choice of what really does.
